Jared Kaufmann 2005

 

      Jared Kaufmann is the 45th person to be inducted into the Oahu Bowling Association Hall of Fame.  He was born March 22, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois.  After he graduated from high school he attended and graduated from Chaminade University in 1962.  Jared has lived in Hawaii for 59 years and been a sanctioned bowler for 49 years.  His achievements include:

 

·        1962 to 1965 helped Chaminade University run its intramural bowling program.

·        1968 started a league for the residents of Moanalua Hillside Terrance, the league is now known as the Aiea 700 Mixed Handicap League and he is the Secretary/Treasurer.

·        At the same time, Jared and his wife began coaching the Maryknoll High School bowling teams in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu (ILH).  They coached both the boys & girls at the varsity and junior varsity levels.  Each athletic director in the ILH is assigned to oversee one of the ILH sports. Bowling was soon assigned to Maryknoll’s Athletic Director (AD), who turned the league over to Jared to run, while he was still coaching the Maryknoll teams. 

·        1974 bowling became a Hawaii High School Athletic Association (HSAA) sport and Jared became the state coordinator for high school bowling in 1978.

·        In the mid 1980’s Jared was appointed the Aiea Whiz Kids coordinator.  He also became President of the YABA and a director for the Oahu Bowling Association. 

·        Because of his bowling expertise, several charitable organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sister, Muscular Dystrophy, and Prevent Child Abuse Hawaii, requested and received his assistance in fund raising events utilizing bowling.

·        In the 1990’s he was the President of the American Cancer Society

·        1994 Bowling Coach of the Year.

·        2003 recognized for his contributions to High School Bowling in Hawaii by the Hawaii Interscholastic Athletic Directors Association.
